Починаючи подорож світом українських військових нагород, створених для війни, ми опиняємося в оточенні багатої культури, яка процвітала століттями, залишивши незгладимий слід в анналах геральдики та військових традицій. Незважаючи на нетривалий час свого розвитку в незалежній державі, українська фалеристика стала предметом значної уваги як науковців, так і політиків, оскільки вона відображає через символи ціннісні орієнтири державного соціального розвитку та процес формування військової організації. Протягом значної частини своєї новітньої історії Україна веде безкомпромісну війну за державний суверенітет і територіальну цілісність країни, за волю і свободу українського народу та кожного громадянина, війну проти невиправданої агресії Російської Федерації. Війна спонукала цивілізований світ створити міжнародну коаліцію для підтримки України у досягненні миру, а українське суспільство – переосмислити власний історичний досвід, шукати витоки національної військової ідентичності як основи стабільності та сили суспільства. У цьому контексті фалеристика постає як моральна основа українського кодексу, символічна система, що утверджує верховенство духу справедливості та мужності. У цій публікації представлені нагороди Збройних Сил України, викувані війною, що імітують багатовікові фалеристичні традиції визвольних армій України. Опублікувавши попередні роботи на цю тему, українські колеги отримали від свого португальського колеги пропозицію переглянути, оновити та розширити свою роботу. Наша пристрасть об'єднала нас із всесвітом Збройних сил, фалеристикою і, звичайно, Україною. Виходячи з таких міцних передумов, було легко скласти план цієї роботи. Зростаюче значення військового світу в Україні, що значною мірою зумовлене російським вторгненням 2022 року, на фалеристичному рівні перетворилося на справжню революцію. Автори не могли не повідомити про це в час, коли, з найсумніших причин, Україна стала щоденною присутністю в домівках усього світу. In the hallowed halls of history, where tales of valor and noble pursuits echo through time, phaleristics stands as a captivating testament to the indomitable spirit of nations. As we embark on a journey through the world of Ukrainian military decorations created for the war, we nd ourselves enveloped in the rich tapestry of a culture that has thrived for centuries, leaving an indelible mark on the annals of heraldry and military traditions. Despite the short time of its development in the independent state, Ukrainian phaleristics has become the subject of considerable attention of both scientists and politicians, as it re ects the state’s value guidelines of social development and the process of formation of the military organization through symbols. For a large portion of its recent history, Ukraine has been ghting the uncompromising war for state sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, for the will and freedom of the Ukrainian people and every citizen, a war against unprovoked aggression of the Russian Federation. The war has prompted the civilized world to create an international coalition to support Ukraine in achieving peace, and Ukrainian society to rethink its own historical experience, to search for the origins of national military identity as the basis of stability and strength of society. In this context, phaleristics appears as the moral basis of the Ukrainian code, a symbolic system that a rms the supremacy of the spirit of justice and courage. Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine walk the thorny path towards the desired and important Victory through re and death, losses and hopes in order to have their own independent state. All the hopes of Ukrainians to be a free people rest on their shoulders. The awards are a celebration of their heroic journey as warriors – the winners and defenders of good, freedom and the desirable peace. The skill of commanding troops, the heroism during hostilities and the success in the combat tasks performance, the signi cant personal contribution to the high level of combat capability of the troops maintenance, the high results in combat training, the exemplary perfor- mance of military duty, love for the Motherland, indomitable spirit and preservation the lives of comrades-in-arms are the main professional criteria for honoring soldiers. Our book “Military decorations of Ukraine for the War” invites readers to delve into the captivating realm of military medals that adorn the chests of Ukraine’s heroes and defenders, during this past two long years, although the war started in 2014, we must remind. These symbolic emblems, meticulously crafted and steeped in historical signi cance, tell a profound history of the nation’s struggles, triumphs, and unwavering resilience. In this publication, the awards, cultivated by war, of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are presented, imitating the centuries-old phaleristic traditions of the liberation armies of Ukraine. And of course, the symbolism of the awards re ects the historical progress and spiritual wealth of the Ukrainian people, and traditions that was passed down from generation to generation as a guide in the original aspiration to independence. The Scythian sword, the princely insignia of Ancient Rus and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Cossack cross of Zaporizhzhya Sich, the state coat of arms of the Ukrainian People’s Republic make up the symbolic basis of the awards. The development of Ukrainian phaleristics studies showed that it rests on a solid historical state tradition. Sometimes war also unites. A seemingly strange proposition that in this case is absolutely true. Never having met in person, the authors, all historians and researchers, two Ukrainians, the other Portuguese (though with various connections to Ukraine), began their correspondence and discussed the plan for this work early in the course of the Russian Federation’s war of full scale invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022. Having published a previous works on the subject, the Ukrainian colleagues were challenged by its Portuguese colleague to revise, update and expand his work. Our passion united us to the universe of the Armed Forces, to Phaleristics and, certainly, to Ukraine. Starting from such solid premises, it was easy to establish the plan for this work. The growing importance of the military world in Ukraine, strongly driven by the Russian inva- sion of 2022, has translated, on the phaleristic level, into a true revolution. The authors could not fail to make it known at a time when, for the most unfortunate reasons, Ukraine has become a daily presence in homes all over the world. This phaleristic revolution, the continuation of a rich tradition which started with the rst Ukrainian independence at the beginning of the 20th century, has been nding, with the con- tinuation of the war of aggression, a fertile eld of evolution, like a laboratory, which has been adapting itself to the needs of reward felt at various levels. Although names are not present here it is important to remember those who stood at the origins of the creation of this system of honours and, of course, those who approved in such a di cult time for the Ukrainian nation. Their work is worthy of respect, it is really amazing to see, during so harsh times, how was it possible to create so many varieties in such a short time and to ful l the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on time. As readers will be able to see throughout the book, it is a truly unique phaleristic experience in recent times, characterised by a richness that should be transmitted to future generations, as a tribute of homage and gratitude to the glorious combatants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in this war to defend the integrity of their Nation’s borders. A type of war that many heralds thought extinct and buried in the history books, but that the Russian aggression has brought to everyday life. It is, therefore, on the basis of these two elements: the phaleristic wealth of Ukrainian military decorations and the tribute to its Armed Forces, the raison d’être of this work that brings together three colleagues from the opposite ends of Europe that new technologies have brought together to produce it. The pro ts from this edition, if any, will go to the Ukrainian Armed Forces which, in war or after victory, will need training to enable them to counterbalance the imperialist intentions of a neigh- bour who has never been satis ed with the separation and independence of the Ukraine. Ao embarcarmos numa viagem pelo mundo das condecorações militares ucranianas criadas para a guerra, encontramonos envolvidos na rica tapeçaria de uma cultura que prosperou durante séculos, deixando uma marca indelével nos anais da heráldica e das tradições militares. Apesar do pouco tempo de desenvolvimento no Estado independente, a falerística ucraniana tornouse objecto de uma atenção considerável por parte de investigadores e políticos, uma vez que re ecte as orientações de valor do Estado para o desenvolvimento social e o processo de formação da organização militar através de símbolos. Durante uma grande parte da sua história recente, a Ucrânia tem travado uma guerra intransigente pela soberania do Estado e pela integridade territorial do país, pela vontade e liberdade do povo ucraniano e de todos os cidadãos, uma guerra contra a agressão não provocada da Federação Russa. Sem nunca se terem encontrado pessoalmente, os autores, todos historiadores e investigadores, dois ucranianos, o outro português (embora com várias ligações à Ucrânia), iniciaram a sua correspondência e discutiram o projecto desta obra logo no decurso da guerra de invasão de larga escala da Ucrânia pela Federação Russa, iniciada em Fevereiro de 2022. Tendo publicado obras anteriores sobre o tema, os colegas ucranianos foram desa ados pelo colega português a rever, actualizar e ampliar o seu trabalho. A nossa paixão uniunos ao universo das Forças Armadas, à Falerística e, certamente, à Ucrânia. Partindo de premissas tão sólidas, foi fácil estabelecer o plano para este trabalho. A crescente importância do mundo militar na Ucrânia, fortemente impulsionada pela invasão russa de 2022, traduziuse, no plano da falerística, numa verdadeira revolução. Revolução que não se podia deixar de a dar a conhecer numa altura em que, pelas mais infelizes razões, a Ucrânia se tornou uma presença quotidiana nos lares de todo o mundo. Esta revolução falerística, continuação de uma rica tradição que começou com a primeira independência ucraniana no início do século XX, tem vindo a encontrar, com a continuação da guerra de agressão, um campo fértil de evolução, como um laboratório, que se tem vindo a adaptar às necessidades de recompensa sentidas a vários níveis. Embora os nomes não estejam aqui presentes, é importante recordar aqueles que estiveram nas origens da criação deste sistema de honras e, claro, aqueles que o aprovaram num período tão difícil para a nação ucraniana. O seu trabalho é digno de respeito. É realmente espantoso ver, em tempos tão difíceis, como foi possível criar tamanha diversidade em tão pouco tempo e satisfazer atempadamente as necessidades das Forças Armadas da Ucrânia. Como os leitores poderão constatar ao longo do livro, trata-se de uma experiência fale- rística verdadeiramente única nos últimos tempos, caracterizada por uma riqueza que deve ser transmitida às gerações futuras, como tributo de homenagem e gratidão aos gloriosos combaten- tes das Forças Armadas da Ucrânia, nesta guerra de defesa da integridade das fronteiras da sua Nação.
